Hola amigos. This is Danny, the new drummer for Omotai. Been awhile since I rapped at ya, but I’ve been around. The other day at practice I told Sam he should throw his phaser pedal in the garbage and Melissa was like to die so she created this blog and told me to fill it with stuff. . . I guess it made sense at the time. One of them had-to-be-there type a things.
Anyway I’ve been with the band about two months now. We’re about to head out on a short tour up to Missoula for Total Fest. This is Omotai’s second time at Total Fest and we’re super excited, it’s gonna be great, but before we can melt every face in western Montana we have to drive FOR EVER so we thought we should play a couple of shows on the way. So we’re doing that and I’m going to recap the shows as we go, assuming the senior partners don’t shut me down after this post! Ha ha ha.
I’ve done three shows with the band so far and I thought I’d kick things off by sharing some stray thoughts about those.
#1: Cactus Music, June 21.
Quinn from Cactus was nice enough to have the band back for the second time. Thanks Quinn! Omotai 1.0 was there previously in February of last year. Full stack in a record store?! Oh Sam, you crazy. I do dig the prep-plus-sideburns look, that’s one of my own recent faves.
We don’t have any video from this show AFAIK but here’s a photo that my wife Angela took of Melissa and me:
Jamie’s mom AND his kids came out for this show! His older daughter (who just got her own electric guitar recently) was completely entranced by Melissa; meanwhile, Angela spent much of the show trying to get the younger one to put her earplugs back in. Approximate setlist:
Get Your Dead Straight
Life In The Hive
Throats of Snakes
More to come tomorrow!
